After what feels like an eternity, but has only been two months, I can finally talk about what’s been going on and why I’ve had to cancel my pre-order for the Emberstorm Alliance series.
My house experienced an electrical fire and was deemed (and still) unlivable.
Over the past two months life has been exceedingly stressful. First, trying to find a place to stay with animals while also dealing with the trauma that comes after a catastrophic and life-changing event. Without exaggeration, having a house fire was (and still is) my biggest fear. I managed to escape the fire with my animals, my purse, and the clothes I was wearing. No shoes. No bra. No laptop.
This week, the salvage company delivered what could be saved. Painfully, it’s not a lot and I’m trying to adjust to starting over.
Surprisingly, it’s not fire that ruins things. In terms of fire, it was only two rooms of my house that experienced flame and water damage. However, smoke and soot are insidious, and the entire house and majority of my belongings sustained considerable smoke damage.
It amazed me how things that you would think would be safe, weren’t. Electronics are especially susceptible to smoke damage, and every appliance you can think of (the entire kitchen which was on the other side of the house away from the fire), and a variety of other electronics that were stored in cabinets no longer work and were marked unsalvageable. AKA my computer equipment. Luckily, I have all of my work saved on thumb-drives and backed up in the cloud.
This week I settled into an apartment for the long-haul as the ETA of when the house will be fixed can be anywhere from six-months to a year. I hope to be back to writing soon as I have many, many stories to tell and share with you all.
Love,
Aria
